{"id":30257,"date":"2026-06-04T18:53:37","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T22:53:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=30257"},"modified":"2026-06-04T18:53:37","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T22:53:37","slug":"gphc-advancing-toward-premier-status-in-caribbean-healthcare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/gphc-advancing-toward-premier-status-in-caribbean-healthcare\/","title":{"rendered":"GPHC advancing toward premier status in Caribbean healthcare"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by Celestine Chacon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For decades, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has stood at the center of Guyana\u2019s healthcare system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While it has at times faced criticism from those who felt its services did not measure up to other institutions, significant government investment is driving remarkable transformation, positioning the facility as an emerging regional leader in healthcare delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Executive Officer of GPHC, Robbie Rambarran, attributed the institution\u2019s improved and more efficient services to both its dedicated staff and significant government investment. He noted that over the past five years, the government has invested approximately 85.2 billion dollars in the facility, with the positive impacts clearly visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;A major impact I\u2019ll attribute is on maternal death , you can see there has been a significant increase over the last year, so far for this year we have 2 deaths and both are indirect deaths,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CEO highlighted that the institution has progressed from a time when it lacked specialized equipment for surgeries and other advanced treatments to now providing these services at no cost to citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This is our national hospital that didn\u2019t have a functional X-ray machine in 2021, we replace those\u2026\u2026There\u2019s equipment we have at Georgetown hospital that isn\u2019t even in the Caribbean,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Rambarran, the facility is now ranking among the Caribbean\u2019s top five, excelling in both healthcare delivery and technological innovation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-by Celestine Chacon For decades, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has stood at the center of Guyana\u2019s healthcare system.
