Barticians are set to benefit from a 25 per cent reduction in electricity tariffs, following\u00a0the government’s 1.5-megawatt solar photovoltaic PV farm.\u00a0President Dr. Irfaan Ali made the announcement during a Cabinet engagement today, noting that the more than $703\u00a0million dollar project is now supplying electricity to the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am pleased to announce that your first tranche of electricity supply in Region 7 here in\u00a0Bartica will be reduced by 25 per cent.Your electricity rate will be reduced by 25 percent in your first tranche as we move up\u00a0to the 50 percent across the country,” <\/strong><\/em>he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is expected to reduce the use of 6,148 drums of diesel while eliminating\u00a0approximately 11,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the government will commence consultations with operators, residents and other stakeholders\u00a0to find effective solutions for reducing the cost of air travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Ali has acknowledged that despite granting aviation operators several\u00a0concessions, including tax exemptions on fuel and significant investments in airstrip\u00a0infrastructure, airfares remain high.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So in the coming weeks, the Minister will be holding some consultations so that we can\u00a0find ways in supporting the community, supporting the villages in reducing the cost of air transport,”<\/em><\/strong> he told residents. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President assured that all suggestions will be considered as the government works\u00a0to develop a comprehensive strategy to make transportation more affordable for hinterland communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
