President Dr. Irfaan Ali has urged Guyanese to embrace the values of sacrifice, patience,\u00a0faith and peace as the nation observed Eid al-Adha.\u00a0Addressing worshippers at the Leonora Masjid, the head of state said Eid al-Adha serves as\u00a0a powerful reminder of obedience, selflessness and unwavering faith,\u00a0values he noted are increasingly important in today’s challenging world.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The circumstances, the challenges, the greatest challenge and when the most is expected of us\u00a0and the circumstances are dire, that is when we need to showcase\u00a0the extent of our faith and the patience of our faith,”<\/em><\/strong> he said. <\/p>\n\n\n

President Ali noted that this year’s observance holds added significance as it coincides with\u00a0Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.\u00a0The president said the themes of sacrifice and independence are deeply connected,\u00a0emphasising that the nation’s freedom was built through the struggles,\u00a0sacrifices and determination of generations before us.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He reflected on the contributions of our foreparents,\u00a0stating that they endured hardship, resisted oppression and worked tirelessly\u00a0to create a country where every citizen could live with dignity and hope. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Ali further urged citizens to make daily sacrifices for the advancement of their\u00a0families, communities and country, stressing that sacrifice should not be confined to religious\u00a0observances alone but should guide everyday life and national development.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are expected to make sacrifices also, sacrifices to ensure that we leave behind\u00a0a better community, a better country, a better family, that we work hard to ensure we provide\u00a0for our families, that we work hard to ensure we support the development of our country,” <\/em><\/strong>the president said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
