{"id":29967,"date":"2026-05-18T19:57:37","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T23:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29967"},"modified":"2026-05-18T19:57:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T23:57:37","slug":"witness-faces-fiery-three-way-cross-examination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/witness-faces-fiery-three-way-cross-examination\/","title":{"rendered":"Witness faces fiery three-way cross examination"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>-elections fraud case adjourned to May 20<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-by Kimberly Giddings <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During today&#8217;s proceedings in the elections fraud trial\u00a0at the Georgetown Magistrates Court,\u00a0key witness Bibi Anieshaw Mohamed took the stand\u00a0and faced a three-way cross-examination from the defense,\u00a0by the end of which she had maintained her previous testimony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tensions flared in court on Monday as disagreement emerged\u00a0over the handling of witness testimony in the ongoing election fraud case.\u00a0During the cross-examination by the defense,\u00a0Bibi Anieshaw Mohamed stuck to her testimony\u00a0as she presented analysis charts connected to the tabulation process\u00a0during the 2020 general and regional elections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court heard that the witness identified changes in figures\u00a0and discrepancies in numbers,\u00a0which prosecutors allege pointed to attempts to manipulate election results\u00a0during the 2020 elections.\u00a0The morning proceedings were meanwhile interrupted\u00a0by an objection to an application\u00a0seeking a re-examination of the witness at a later date.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prosecution informed the court that although the witness\u00a0had already completed giving evidence,\u00a0one of the prosecutors had not been present for portions of the testimony,\u00a0thus requiring time to review the evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defense attorney Darren Wade opposed the request,\u00a0arguing that prosecutors who had remained present throughout the proceedings\u00a0were capable of continuing, having heard the testimony firsthand.\u00a0The prosecution, however, maintained that additional time was necessary\u00a0to properly review the evidence before moving ahead\u00a0with the re-examination process.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, concerns were raised about the delays in the case.
