{"id":29870,"date":"2026-05-14T20:33:41","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T00:33:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29870"},"modified":"2026-05-14T20:33:41","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T00:33:41","slug":"guyana-festival-to-run-from-may-15-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/guyana-festival-to-run-from-may-15-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Guyana festival to run from May 15-17"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>-by NaAsia Bristol <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preparations are in high gear for the return of the Guyana Festival, with final touches being made ahead of tomorrow&#8217;s opening at the Guyana National Stadium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a 12-year break, Guyana Festival is set to officially return tomorrow\u00a0and preparations are moving full speed ahead here at the National Stadium.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Workers are seen erecting tents, installing lighting and sound systems,\u00a0\u00a0and preparing stages for the three-day cultural showcase.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Booths representing Guyana&#8217;s diverse heritage are also taking shape,\u00a0with signs already in place for villages highlighting Amerindian, African, Indian, Chinese, Portuguese, and European cultures.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s independence, and what it does is capturing our culture, this cultural diversity that we&#8217;ve known for as a country,\u00a0\u00a0culture, history, and food. All of that is being brought together.\u00a0So when you&#8217;re here for this Guyana Festival, more or less you are coming to experience Guyana and its richness,&#8221; Guyana Festival Committee member, Cordell McClure explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0The festival, being staged under the theme Song, Soul, and Taste, will feature cultural performances,\u00a0culinary displays, concerts, craft exhibitions, and family-friendly entertainment\u00a0as part of Guyana&#8217;s 60th Independence Celebration.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is a family event, so we want to encourage people to bring out the entire family,\u00a0\u00a0not just for entertainment, but also for the historical relevance,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opening ceremony begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, and will be free to the public until 8 p.m.,\u00a0\u00a0with President Dr. Muhammad Irfan Ali expected to deliver the feature address.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-by NaAsia Bristol Preparations are in high gear for the return of the Guyana Festival, with final touches being made ahead of tomorrow&#8217;s opening at the Guyana National Stadium.
