{"id":29835,"date":"2026-05-12T20:25:28","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T00:25:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29835"},"modified":"2026-05-12T20:25:28","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T00:25:28","slug":"generic-ozempic-coming-soon-to-guyana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/generic-ozempic-coming-soon-to-guyana\/","title":{"rendered":"Generic Ozempic coming soon to Guyana"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>-MoH advocates safe use and medical supervision<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A generic version of Ozempic, the increasingly popular diabetes medication\u00a0now widely used for weight loss, could soon become available in Guyana.\u00a0And as interest in the medication grows, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony urges caution, sharing important health guidance on the proper use of Ozempic\u00a0and warning against misuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ozempic, which contains the active ingredient semaglutide,\u00a0is a medication primarily used to treat adults with type 2 diabetes\u00a0whose condition is not adequately controlled through diet and exercise alone.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ozempic is an injectable medication in pre-filled pens and is administered\u00a0under the skin in areas such as the abdomen, thigh, and upper arm. In recent years, it has gained popularity as a weight loss aid,\u00a0with many people using the medication as part of obesity management strategies.\u00a0Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony said the generic version of Ozempic\u00a0is currently being processed for approval and is expected to become available soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;But it requires proper medical use and it must be under medical supervision\u00a0because without that then people can misuse it and it can become a problem for them. So, in Guyana, for the medicine itself,\u00a0very soon, I would say maybe in another two months or so,\u00a0the generic version of Ozempic would be made available on the local market,&#8221;<\/strong> he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister stressed the importance of proper medical guidance when using Ozempic,\u00a0particularly as demand grows for both diabetes management and weight loss.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;So this is not a non-prescription item.You have to get a prescription, you have to, somebody got to supervise your care,\u00a0and I think people should stick to what these medications were intended for.\u00a0And if we do that, then we&#8217;ll get the right benefit of the medication,&#8221;<\/strong> the minister said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Anthony says the Ministry will be monitoring the use of Ozempic when it comes to Guyana.
