{"id":29826,"date":"2026-05-12T19:52:57","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T23:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29826"},"modified":"2026-05-12T19:52:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T23:52:57","slug":"more-than-200-pumps-are-in-operation-across-the-country-president-ali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/more-than-200-pumps-are-in-operation-across-the-country-president-ali\/","title":{"rendered":"More than 200 pumps are in operation across the country &#8211; President Ali"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>-by David Clarke<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heavy rainfall over the past two days has placed drainage systems across Guyana under\u00a0pressure, prompting a national flood response effort.\u00a0But despite these efforts, some areas, especially in the capital, experienced flooding.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Irfaan Ali last evening visited some of these areas to get a first-hand assessment\u00a0of the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;The lack of maintenance from the city, of course, is a major challenge for us.\u00a0When you look at the alleyways in Queenstown and many of the other areas in Georgetown,\u00a0even in Allbouystown and so on, the drainage between the alleyways are completely overgrown.\u00a0They&#8217;re not maintained at all,&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was noted that more than 200 pumps are in operation across the country, including\u00a0Georgetown, as rainy conditions persist.\u00a0270 pumps nationally deployed, working almost 24 hours along the clock.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;That is in all of the critical areas.
