{"id":29799,"date":"2026-05-09T19:54:40","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T23:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29799"},"modified":"2026-05-09T19:54:40","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T23:54:40","slug":"government-halts-region-four-contract-awards-for-further-verification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/government-halts-region-four-contract-awards-for-further-verification\/","title":{"rendered":"Government halts Region Four contract awards for further verification"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p> The Government of Guyana has temporarily suspended Phase One of small contractor contract awards in Region Four to allow additional verification checks following complaints raised during the signing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement issued on the matter, the government said the decision forms part of its ongoing effort to maintain transparency, fairness and accountability in the public pre-qualification process for small contractors undertaking projects valued at $15 million and under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pre-qualification process began on March 2 and ended on April 6 after an extension was granted. Applications were submitted through the Government\u2019s procurement website,\u00a0and notices were also published in daily newspapers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the minister, technical staff and ministers later carried out verification exercises to identify issues such as duplicate applications and businesses linked to the same household or family. In the statement, he explained that the checks were aimed at ensuring fairness and preventing any individual or family from receiving an unfair advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last few days, the first phase of contract awards and signings began publicly for projects under the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, during the Region Four exercise, complaints and concerns were raised, prompting the Government to pause the process while further investigations and checks are carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This massive undertaking with the engagement\u00a0and evaluation\u00a0of\u00a0the more than\u00a0ten thousand persons\u00a0who\u00a0submitted applications utilising the aforementioned\u00a0online platform,\u00a0should not be seen as a simple task.
