{"id":29638,"date":"2026-04-27T18:49:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T22:49:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29638"},"modified":"2026-04-27T18:49:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T22:49:17","slug":"safe-workplaces-key-as-guyana-develops-minister-griffith","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/safe-workplaces-key-as-guyana-develops-minister-griffith\/","title":{"rendered":"Safe workplaces key as Guyana develops &#8211; Minister Griffith"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>As Guyana continues its rapid development, ensuring safe working conditions remains a top priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s according to Minister of Labour, Keoma Griffith, who made the remarks following the 2026 Occupational Safety and Health Walk held in Georgetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hundreds of Guyanese turned out early Sunday morning for the annual OSH Month walk, which began at the Square of the Revolution and moved through the city along Brickdam, Avenue of the Republic, Main Street, High Street, and ended at the Seawall Esplanade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_7597-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_7597-1024x682.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_7597-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_7597-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_7597.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants included more than 50 public and private sector agencies such as the National Insurance Scheme, Guyana Power and Light, ExxonMobil, and the Ministry of Agriculture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to promote safer and healthier work environments across Guyana, with this year\u2019s focus on strengthening psychosocial wellbeing in the workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>The turnout has been exceptional but this walk represents a lot because it&#8217;s about raising awareness for the importance of occupational<\/strong> <strong>safety and health in Guyana<\/strong>,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister added that as development accelerates protecting workers remains a priority. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>With all the transformation that we&#8217;re seeing and that we continue to see, we have a role to ensure that all our labourers, people who work or labour force, that they are able to do so in the most conducive and safe environment<\/strong>,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Occupational Safety and Health Month is being observed under the theme: \u201c<em>Good psychosocial working environments: A pathway to thriving workers and strong organisations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OSH month activities continue with a series of events aimed at building awareness and strengthening workplace standards nationwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Guyana continues its rapid development, ensuring safe working conditions remains a top priority.
