Ali assures citizens of Georgetown<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The APNU is preparing to challenge Central Government\u2019s decision to assume control over several roads in the Capital Georgetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was confirmed by City Mayor Alfred Mentore, during the party\u2019s weekly press conference today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Georgetown Mayor Alfred Mentore is adamant that the government\u2019s decision to reclassify some city roads as Public Roads should not be implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While acknowledging that the council lacks the capacity to maintain some of these roads, Mentore said the city is preparing to challenge the decision in the courts, and, if necessary, take the matter as far as the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this week, President Irfaan Ali acknowledged the concerns expressed over the decision to reclassify the roads but dismissed the notion that he was playing politics with the Nation\u2019s Capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing accusations that the move is an attempt to take control of the Council, the President says indeed he wants to see Georgetown being managed by a PPP\/C-led council, as he referenced the blame game that surfaces often, including whenever the city floods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-Pres.
