{"id":29556,"date":"2026-04-22T19:26:46","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T23:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29556"},"modified":"2026-04-22T19:26:46","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T23:26:46","slug":"guyana-venezuela-border-case-hearings-set-for-may-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/guyana-venezuela-border-case-hearings-set-for-may-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Guyana\/Venezuela Border Case hearings set for May 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>&#8211; AG Nandlall to represent nation at ICJ<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guyana is set to enter a crucial phase in its long-standing border controversy with Venezuela, as oral hearings open at the International Court of Justice on May 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attorney General Anil Nandlall has announced that Guyana\u2019s case against Venezuela will be heard at the International Court of Justice beginning Monday, May 4, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stated that hearings will continue daily for that week and could extend into the following week if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nandlall also confirmed that he will join Guyana\u2019s international legal team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong><em>Yours truly will join our team of international lawyers and will be appearing for and representing the interest of Guyana at that important<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>hearing at the International Court of Justice<\/em><\/strong>,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, he noted that his weekly programme \u201cIssues in the News\u201d will not be aired during that period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case stems from a long-running border controversy in which Venezuela claims the Essequibo region\u2014over two-thirds of Guyana\u2019s territory\u2014despite an 1899 arbitral ruling establishing the boundary.
