{"id":29549,"date":"2026-04-22T15:44:20","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T19:44:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29549"},"modified":"2026-04-22T15:44:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T19:44:20","slug":"roadside-vendors-to-be-relocated-as-agriculture-road-market-tarmac-completed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/roadside-vendors-to-be-relocated-as-agriculture-road-market-tarmac-completed\/","title":{"rendered":"Roadside vendors to be relocated as Agriculture Road market tarmac completed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Roadside vendors operating along Agricultural Road, Mon Repos are expected to be relocated to a newly constructed tarmac facility as part of efforts to improve safety, order and overall living conditions in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall said the project, which is nearing completion, was developed in direct response to requests made by vendors during the elections campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cDuring the elections campaign\u2026 we met with the persons at Agricultural Road\u2026 and they made a request for us to construct this tarmac and they will move their operations to that location,\u201d <\/strong>he said during his weekly <em>Issues in the News<\/em> programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The facility, located several miles inland from the East Coast Public Road, spans a wide area and is intended to accommodate vendors currently operating in makeshift stalls along the roadside. Once relocation is completed, the existing structures on the government reserve are expected to be removed, improving traffic flow and reducing congestion in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nandlall explained that the initiative forms part of a broader plan to enhance the quality of life in communities by addressing longstanding issues linked to unregulated commercial activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cWe are finding alternative accommodations for these places\u2026 the small furniture manufacturers, the bottom house operations, the mechanic shops, the body workshops,\u201d<\/strong> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that while these operations provide livelihoods, their location within residential communities often creates challenges such as noise, dust and environmental concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThese things are causing unusual, unnecessary and untold problems in the communities,\u201d<\/strong> he lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AG said efforts are also underway to identify lands where livestock can be relocated, in an effort to reduce road hazards and property damage caused by animals being kept in residential areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Hon.
