The government has officially commissioned the new, $6 billion Aubrey Barker four-lane corridor, marking a major step in the transformation of South Georgetown\u2019s road network. President Dr. Irfaan Ali says the project is not just about infrastructure, but about improving lives and creating new opportunities for residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that upgraded road networks are already driving significant economic gains, with property values in the area increasing by over 500 percent, creating real wealth for families.<\/p>\n\n\n

“Our vision is clear. Better roads, better movement, better lives. This road transport master plan did not begin yesterday. It has been unfolding steadily over the past five years, and it continues its strength and purpose today. The expansion and extension of Aubrey Barker Road is one chapter in a much larger national story<\/strong><\/em>,” the president said. <\/p>\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill acknowledged challenges during construction but highlighted the overall benefits now being delivered to residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“While we were building the road, a couple of lampposts fell, and I took my rebuke, and I came and said, sorry, but clean your lens of your camera and take the picture, and don’t just show the lamppost that has fallen, show the road that is built, properly lit, pavement for the children, cycling lanes, and the value that this has brought to residents who are living now in South Ruimveldt<\/strong>,” he said. <\/p>\n\n\n
