Marking a significant step since the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge was opened last year, a spanking new Office has now been commissioned, that will play a critical role in regulating operations on the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, on Sunday commissioned a new office for the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge at Schoonard on the West Bank of Demerara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200bThis facility will be overseen by General Manager, Wayne Watson, and will house staff who will monitor and maintain the operations of the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking with the media, the Minister urged citizens to drive within the speed limits and not use the new roads, or the new bridge, like racetracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My appeal would be to the people of Guyana that this is a national assets lets care it, and then I would also want to address those who would like to be reckless we open a new highway and it becomes a race course<\/strong>,” he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon the project’s successful completion, Project Manager Patrick Thompson officially handed over the building to General Manager Wayne Watson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latter expressed his gratitude to the government and reaffirmed his commitment to upholding all operational responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“On behalf of the staff who will be the key to ensure that the bridge is operating the way it awe to and provide the services as required we want to thank the government more so His Excellency for giving us the resources and the support<\/strong>,” Watson said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new office is outfitted with an operations room that can flag errant motorists from one end of the bridge to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While several veteran Demerara Bridge staff members are transitioning to the new location, others have been strategically reassigned to various partner agencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
