{"id":29358,"date":"2026-04-13T21:20:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T01:20:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29358"},"modified":"2026-04-13T21:20:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T01:20:27","slug":"guyana-zoological-park-set-for-major-transformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/guyana-zoological-park-set-for-major-transformation\/","title":{"rendered":"Guyana Zoological Park set for major transformation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>-by Celestine Chacon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guyana\u2019s national zoo will soon undergo massive transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was announced by President Irfaan Ali at the commissioning of the Guyana\/China friendship park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The long-awaited zoo project follows the government\u2019s collaboration with the The King&#8217;s Foundation to help restore the Garden City of Georgetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Ali emphasised that the zoo should be recognized as an important part of Guyana\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em><strong>I\u2019m pleased to announce that the Georgetown Zoo and Botanical Gardens transformation project will commence with an investment that would make it the pride of South America<\/strong><\/em>,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The zoo is expected to be integrated into a wider network of city walkways, connecting green, cultural, commercial, and waterfront areas as part of a broader urban development plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;<strong>This investment will see the full rehabilitation of gardens and water systems, modern zoo infrastructure, improve animal care and containment, visitor facilities\u2019 and accessibilities\u00a0 upgrades, elevated bridges , pathways and landscape restoration<\/strong>,&#8221;<\/em> he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative is in keeping with Guyana\u2019s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030, which promotes  sustainable tourism while safeguarding the nation\u2019s natural ecosystems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-by Celestine Chacon Guyana\u2019s national zoo will soon undergo massive transformation.
