Thirty selected designers participating in the upcoming Origins Guyana Fashion Festival\u00a0will receive grants as part of efforts to support and develop local talent.\u00a0The festival was officially launched on Friday evening under the theme, ‘A Diamond Legacy Fashioning 60 Years’.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her remarks, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues,\u00a0emphasised that the event, which takes place from July 3 to 5,\u00a0is more than just a fashion showcase.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are positioning Guyana as a destination not just for tourism,\u00a0but for culture, creativity and fashion.\u00a0And the Origins Guyana Fashion Festival is a key part of that vision,” <\/strong>she said. <\/p>\n\n\n

Rodrigues emphasised that the festival also serves as a key platform\u00a0where designers can transform their creativity\u00a0into viable businesses and compete on the global stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister announced that while designers from across Guyana\u00a0will be given an opportunity to present their work,\u00a030 will be selected to participate in the upcoming Origins Showcase.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of the 30 participating designers will benefit from a grant provided up front\u00a0to support production and preparations. In addition, five award categories will be introduced this year\u00a0to recognize and reward excellence.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Best Fashion Designer will receive a prize of GYD$1 million, while winners in the Best Emerging Designer,\u00a0Outstanding Storyteller Innovator,\u00a0Best Female Model and Best Male Model will each receive GYD$500,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
