{"id":29084,"date":"2026-03-28T20:54:03","date_gmt":"2026-03-29T00:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=29084"},"modified":"2026-03-28T21:47:37","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T01:47:37","slug":"essequibo-to-get-field-hospital-president-ali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/essequibo-to-get-field-hospital-president-ali\/","title":{"rendered":"Essequibo to get field hospital &#8211; President Ali"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-by Tracy Romalho<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Irfaan Ali announced the setup of a fully equipped US field hospital in Region Two, bringing advanced healthcare directly to communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative is part of an expanded partnership with the US Southern Command\u2019s Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team LAMAT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the 2026 LAMAT mission, 29 Guyanese had their sight restored through cutting-edge&nbsp;ophthalmology procedures. The mission also provided dental care, mass casualty training,&nbsp;and other vital services, significantly enhancing local healthcare capacity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the closing reception for the U.S. Air Force Medical Professionals, President Ali praised&nbsp;their dedication, stating that a nation cannot be truly secure if its people are unwell,&nbsp;underserved, or uncertain about access to care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>&#8220;SOUTHCOM would have donated a field hospital worth about US$1 million to the Guyana Defence Force. So I will tell you, the next time you come, we will establish that field hospital with all of its services in Essequibo,&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> the president said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Ali also highlighted plans to expand specialised healthcare programs,&nbsp;including mental health support, in collaboration with the University of Miami.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8220;I hope through the University of Miami and the work we are doing now, and also, of course,&nbsp;with LAMAT, we can refine our mental health program and maybe integrate it into a platform&nbsp;that LAMAT utilises to have tele-support, online support of mental health and persons suffering&nbsp;from mental health issues,&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> In addition, the head of state proposed a new initiative for LAMAT&nbsp;with the Ministry of Education to help teachers identify students at risk of gang-related&nbsp;activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, United States Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot, said the mission reflects&nbsp;the U.S. commitment to Guyana and the wider region. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-by Tracy Romalho President Irfaan Ali announced the setup of a fully equipped US field hospital in Region Two, bringing advanced healthcare directly to communities.
