All systems have been fully activated as government agencies remain on high alert amid ongoing heavy rainfall and flooding threats across Guyana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha noted that authorities are fully mobilised, with intensified efforts underway to manage water levels and protect vulnerable communities nationwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have our special teams in Georgetown. All the engineers in Georgetown are out in the field monitoring, checking to see that sluices are operable, pumps are operable, canals are clean. When we visited the Cowan Street sluice, the sluice was closed, although the tide was very low. And that shows that there is some serious problem with the city council, because they are not monitoring the situation,”<\/strong> he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister says the response remains proactive, with technical staff from the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority maintaining a 24-hour presence in key areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The rainfall will continue. We are monitoring it, and we are working around the clock to minimize flooding,”<\/strong> he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents are being urged to remain vigilant as authorities continue to monitor the situation and deploy resources where needed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
