President Dr. Irfaan Ali has assured the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) that the PPP Government will protect and uphold their interests as they commemorate today their 50th<\/sup> anniversary as a trade union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) proudly marked its 50th Anniversary at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, celebrating decades of service to workers.<\/p>\n\n\n

The milestone event highlighted the union\u2019s longstanding role in advocating for fair treatment, workers\u2019 rights, and improved conditions nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union leaders reaffirmed GAWU\u2019s commitment to defending workers and honouring the sacrifices of those who built the labour movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Dr. Irfaan Ali was commended for what officials described as unprecedented support to the union and its membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We extend our thanks and appreciation to President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali and his government…have brought hope to thousands of workers and their communities,” GAWU President, Seepaul Narine said. <\/p>\n\n\n

Addressing the gathering, the Head of State reminded sugar workers that the People’s Progressive Party\/Civic government stood with them and moved to resuscitate the sugar industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that billions of dollars have been invested since 2020 to revive the sector inherited in decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President also assured workers that they continue to have a strong ally in the governing party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We cannot take away the fact that there would be no GAWU without the People’s Progressive Party,”<\/strong><\/em> the president said. “And in 5o years after you must know you have a friend in the PPP Government, you have a partner in the PPP government, you have a commitment to workers in the people\u2019s progressive party government<\/strong>.”<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
