{"id":28882,"date":"2026-03-19T18:10:26","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T22:10:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=28882"},"modified":"2026-03-19T18:10:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T22:10:26","slug":"parag-says-the-region-must-rethink-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/parag-says-the-region-must-rethink-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Parag says the Region must rethink education"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Education in the Caribbean is undergoing a major shift, as technology continues to reshape how students learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, says the region must be prepared not just to adapt but to lead that transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing the CXC Regional Education Conference, Minister Parag highlighted the changing nature of today\u2019s learners, noting that traditional teaching methods are quickly being overtaken by technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She explained that students are now more visual, digitally engaged, and able to access information on demand forcing a rethink of how education is delivered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong>Classrooms are no longer defined by 4 walls, knowledge is no longer scares and the role of the teacher, the student and indeed the examination system itself is being reshaped in real time<\/strong>,&#8221; she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But while the education landscape is evolving, the Minister stressed that foundational skills like literacy and numeracy remain critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To address this, she pointed to measures aimed at strengthening learning outcomes across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These include literacy assessments to ensure students are able to read by Grade Three, along with expanded community-based initiatives to support learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also pointed to the need for updated approaches to assessment, as education systems adjust to the realities of the digital age.<br><br>However, Minister Parag cautioned education leaders against rushing into drastic reforms that could leave teachers and students behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong>If we are to rethink education for the digital age we cant pursue sudden heavy handed change that leaves our teachers and students feeling pressured, unprepared or excluded<\/strong>,&#8221; she warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She says as change continues, the region must be deliberate on shaping an education system that is both modern and inclusive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Education in the Caribbean is undergoing a major shift, as technology continues to reshape how students learn.
