President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Saturday evening commissioned a new six story Outpatient Pavilion at Dr. Balwant Singh\u2019s Hospital on East Street.

This new facility represents a major leap in the country\u2019s mission to integrate private and public medical services while establishing a regional hub for advanced clinical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pavilion was constructed to meet international accreditation requirements and features specialised floors for women\u2019s services, dermatology, ophthalmology, and a state of the art IVF center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is designed to accommodate about 400 patients daily.<\/p>\n\n\n

In his remarks, President Ali emphasised that the government is moving toward a future where there is no distinction in quality between public and private healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that to achieve this, the government has formed strategic partnerships with various international institutions, such as Mount Sinai, Northwell and Apollo. <\/p>\n\n\n

The head of state further explained that the government will continue to integrate technology into enhancing the sector, announcing a firm commitment to introducing robotic surgery in Guyana to reduce human fatigue and ensure consistent surgical precision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There are some simple surgeries that can be done through robotics that will save us from the human fatigue. Human fatigue restricts how much we can do. It restricts our performance.It restricts the quality of care. After you do four or five, you get tired. But imagine the same level of performance on the first surgery versus the 20th surgery on the same day. That is what it allows us to do. So we are going there. It’s not if, it’s not but or when,”<\/em><\/strong> he underscored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Ali also detailed plans for an integrated medical supply platform and the use of artificial intelligence to manage drug supply chains and interpret diagnostic scans in seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’re deploying technology to bridge distances and break barriers. We’re committed to the nationwide rollout of electronic health records already launched at GPHC. The expansion of telemedicine service to 200 sites, linking remote communities to specialists, integration of AI in diagnostics from x-rays to CT scans. As a matter of fact, we are now going to sign on an AI tool that will bring down the costs for reading and interpreting CT scans and x-rays substantially. And it can do it in seconds,” <\/strong><\/em>the president noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Ali praised the hospital for its forward-thinking approach, noting that the institution has already introduced a patient portal app for scheduling and medical records. He urged the private sector to continue partnering with the state to fill gaps and revolutionise the health sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on the journey of the institution which began 22 years ago as an obstetrics hospital, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital Dr. Madhu Singh thanked the government for fostering an environment conducive to private investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
