{"id":28527,"date":"2026-02-18T20:18:04","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T00:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=28527"},"modified":"2026-02-18T20:18:04","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T00:18:04","slug":"more-skilled-guyanese-needed-for-energy-transition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/more-skilled-guyanese-needed-for-energy-transition\/","title":{"rendered":"More skilled Guyanese needed for energy transition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>As Guyana continues to build out its energy infrastructure, there is a need for more Guyanese to step up and be trained in green energy related disciplines, so that the country can advance its green energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Mark Phillips, whose portfolios include energy, shared with the conference, the efforts being made to train Guyanese in green energy so that a new workforce can be built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Our government has been advancing initiatives for the University of Guyana and through GOAL platform, to develop the skilled labour force needed<\/strong>. <strong>From engineers and technicians, to environmental scientists and policy experts. We must equip our citizens with the skills needed to lead this transformation<\/strong>,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the training of the workforce continues, however, so does the energy transition, with over 186 megawatts of new generating capacity introduced since 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>We also constructed solar farms at Onderneeming, Charity, Leguaan, Wakenaam, Trafalgar, Prospect, Hampshire, Bartica, Mahdia and Lethem. We\u2019ve completed Mini-hydro power plants at Moca Moca, Kumu and Kato.
