The Port Mourant based Guyana Technical Training College was officially commissioned today, with President Dr. Irfaan Ali describing the college as one of the most strategic investments in the oil and gas sector ever made in Guyana\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The facility was built at a total cost of approximately US $100 million, and is a collaborative effort between oil giant ExxonMobil, which was represented by country\u00a0manager Alistair Routledge, and the government of Guyana.\u00a0In his feature address, President Ali noted that the college was born out\u00a0of thinking outside the box, to come up with ways in which locals could better benefit\u00a0from the oil and gas sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In 2020, we had many decisions to make, important decisions for this country.\u00a0But both the government and our partners knew that we had to make these decisions.\u00a0Tough as they were, and I remember throwing out a number of crazy ideas…it is this crazy creation of ideas with a wonderful team that is ready to take these\u00a0crazy ideas and to work in molding them that really define nations that are successful,” <\/em><\/strong>the president said. <\/p>\n\n\n

President Ali meanwhile made it clear that the residents of Region 6 owe it to themselves\u00a0to make the best use of the opportunities this college and other initiatives will present.\u00a0In a passionate enthused presentation, he urged the people to remember that it is the\u00a0People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP\/C), that prioritised their development, dissuading\u00a0them from gambling with their future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Your new stadium, your state of the art athletic track, four lane highways, thousands of new\u00a0homes being built, tens of thousands of acres of agricultural land being opened, billions\u00a0of dollars invested in D&I, new secondary schools, expanded university education, expanded\u00a0technical education, you in Region 6 have no excuse whatsoever to be successful,” \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the courses being offered are Production Technician Training, Instrumentation, Electrical\u00a0and Mechanical programs.\u00a0Back in 2024, a US$13 million world class state of the art facility simulator was opened on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
