{"id":28420,"date":"2026-02-12T15:04:41","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T19:04:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=28420"},"modified":"2026-02-12T15:09:02","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T19:09:02","slug":"committee-of-supply-approves-billions-more-to-expand-housing-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/committee-of-supply-approves-billions-more-to-expand-housing-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Committee of Supply approves billions more to expand housing development"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The Committee of Supply on Wednesday approved a historic $159.4 billion allocation for the Ministry of Housing, as the ministry intensifies efforts to clear the backlog of over 75,000 pending applications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Estimates of Expenditure were piloted by Minister of Housing, Collin Croal.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/633445884_1431899488978495_4687328808011465705_n-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/633445884_1431899488978495_4687328808011465705_n-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/633445884_1431899488978495_4687328808011465705_n-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/633445884_1431899488978495_4687328808011465705_n-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/633445884_1431899488978495_4687328808011465705_n-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/633445884_1431899488978495_4687328808011465705_n.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Responding to questions concerning the number of pending application in the system, Minister Croal explained that a strategy of a strategy of acquiring lands and simultaneously tendering for infrastructure has been employed, adding that the ministry is working assiduously to clear the backlog based on land availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cWe have a commitment that we are building at least 40,000 houses over these five years.&nbsp;So, if you take that into consideration, of the 75,000 plus, if you take into consideration that of that Region 4 alone is 50,000,&nbsp;that will tell you that, obviously, we will reduce Region 4 by a great margin, too,\u201d <\/strong>he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this regard, some $2.2 billion is allocation for land acquisition and the development of new schemes, while $5.4 billion is set aside for upgrades in existing areas. Further, $1.1 billion will support the regularisation of informal settlements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Minister Croal explained that several communities are earmarked for regularisation this year in Regions Three, Four and Ten.
