{"id":28384,"date":"2026-02-10T19:29:24","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T23:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=28384"},"modified":"2026-02-10T19:29:24","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T23:29:24","slug":"govt-assures-of-readiness-for-disasters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/govt-assures-of-readiness-for-disasters\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t assures of readiness for disasters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Upgrades to Guyana\u2019s disaster preparedness and emergency response systems are included in the $111.4 billion allocated to the Office of the Prime Minister. <br><br>This was disclosed when the Committee of Supply examined the estimates on Monday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret&#8217;d) Mark Phillips assured of Guyana\u2019s readiness to confront emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was in response to questions from Opposition Member of Parliament Amanza Walton-Desir, about the government\u2019s contingency planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Phillips, a former army Chief of Staff, pointed to his extensive background in disaster response and management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explained that under the lead agency, Civil Defence Commission, funds have been set aside and comprehensive plans are in place to respond effectively to emergencies and disasters, should they occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>When you deal with a disaster it\u2019s an in inter agency support, so we do have contingency plans and part of the consultancy is to further develop additional contingency plans<\/strong>,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PM also noted the CDC\u2019s other plans, which include the continuation of countrywide educational and communication campaigns. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only recently, Guyana received commendation from the Jamaican government for the assistance it provided to the hurricane-stricken island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Upgrades to Guyana\u2019s disaster preparedness and emergency response systems are included in the $111.4 billion allocated to the Office of the Prime Minister.
