{"id":28117,"date":"2026-01-24T18:31:04","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T22:31:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=28117"},"modified":"2026-01-24T18:31:04","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T22:31:04","slug":"finance-minister-highlights-economic-progress-in-guyana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/finance-minister-highlights-economic-progress-in-guyana\/","title":{"rendered":"Finance minister highlights economic progress in Guyana"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Finance Minister,&nbsp;Dr.&nbsp;Ashni&nbsp;Singh&nbsp;says Guyana\u2019s economic transformation is evident in the everyday lives of its citizens, particularly young professionals, and reflects the sound judgment of the Guyanese people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking in a recent interview, Dr. Singh emphasised his\u00a0faith in the analytical capability and intelligence of the nation, noting that the\u00a0People\u2019s Progressive Party\u2019s decisive 2025 re-election\u00a0signals that citizens recognize and support the economic progress taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong><em>Every young professional has within their reach the ability to own their own home. That was not the case 20 years ago.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>It was certainly not the case. It would have been an outlandish and an unrealistic expectation 30 years ago. Today, it is the norm<\/em><\/strong>,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Singh also highlighted advances in&nbsp;personal transportation, a key indicator according to him of rising incomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;<\/em><\/strong><em style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Today, more young Guyanese own<\/em><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>their own means of<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>transportation than at any other<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>time in our country&#8217;s history. <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Again, when I started as a civil<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>servant, you had to be a wealthy<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>person or a senior civil servant<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>to own your own motorcar. Today,<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>owning your own motor car is not<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>beyond the reach of the average<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Guyanese family. Most people<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>will not be able to buy a car<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>with cash, but they&#8217;re earning<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>enough income to be able to go<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>into a bank, get a loan, service<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>that loan with their income, and<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>purchase a motor car<\/em><\/strong>,&#8221; the senior minister pointed out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Education and skills development are also key pillars of the country\u2019s economic progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Finance Minister linked these developments to&nbsp;broader economic growth, stating that the combination of&nbsp;rising incomes, access to credit, homeownership, and improved education&nbsp;reflects a Guyana that is modernizing rapidly and creating opportunity in every sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Finance Minister,&nbsp;Dr.&nbsp;Ashni&nbsp;Singh&nbsp;says Guyana\u2019s economic transformation is evident in the everyday lives of its citizens, particularly young professionals, and reflects the sound judgment of the Guyanese people.
