{"id":28071,"date":"2026-01-22T18:46:58","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T22:46:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=28071"},"modified":"2026-01-22T18:46:59","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T22:46:59","slug":"manickchand-calls-for-more-responsive-rdc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/manickchand-calls-for-more-responsive-rdc\/","title":{"rendered":"Manickchand\u00a0calls for more responsive RDC\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>-in Region 5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillors of the Region Five RDC have been asked to be more responsive, visible and accessible to the communities they serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This from Local Government Minister Priya Manickchand\u00a0during a\u00a0visit to the region yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the engagement, Minister Manickchand emphasized that effective representation requires constant interaction with the public.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She&nbsp;therefore&nbsp;urged councillors to be proactive and responsive to the needs and concerns of citizens, noting that accessibility is critical to building trust and confidence in local governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister further encouraged RDCs to extend their outreach beyond their immediate communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Give yourself a timeline of which you would want to go each village and where you ask the chairman if he\u2019s going somewhere, make sure he tells you. Set yourself a schedule of 2 or 3 of you getting together and going into communities, talking to people, hearing people. Recording with a view to fixing, a view of action. Take people\u2019s numbers, call them and tell them what you\u2019ve done<\/strong>,&#8221; she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister reminded&nbsp;Councillors that their role is a sacred responsibility and a valuable opportunity to serve the people of their villages and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She urged\u00a0them to\u00a0become thoroughly familiar with their region,\u00a0learning\u00a0the number of schools, churches, temples, and other key institutions and facilities, stressing that this knowledge is essential to effective leadership and meaningful service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>So understand the magnitude and the beauty of the privilege you have here, don\u2019t waste it. Just enjoy the fact that you\u2019re a\u00a0<\/strong><strong>C<\/strong><strong>oun<\/strong><strong>cillor<\/strong><strong>. Don\u2019t puff up your chess and walk around boastfully and pridefully.
