{"id":27707,"date":"2026-01-07T17:46:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T21:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=27707"},"modified":"2026-01-07T17:47:24","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T21:47:24","slug":"use-claims-and-objections-ag-to-opposition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/use-claims-and-objections-ag-to-opposition\/","title":{"rendered":"Use Claims and Objections- AG to Opposition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>by Celestine Chacon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall SC has issued a strong appeal to opposition political parties to utilise the ongoing Claims and Objections period to substantiate and address allegations of bloating on Guyana\u2019s voters\u2019 list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During Claims and Objections, persons can either apply to have persons taken off the preliminary voters list or have themselves added to the list. According to Nandlall, the Opposition has no excuse for not helping to \u201ccleanse\u201d the voters\u2019 list of any names they believe should not be included. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cI\u2019m calling on the PNC, I\u2019m calling on the APNU and I\u2019m calling upon all those who have the tendency to allege that the registration list and voters list are bloated to go now and remove the bloat, go to the registration centers across the country and rinse the list,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>he said during last evening&#8217;s &#8216;Issues in the News&#8217; programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That being said, Nandlall was not optimistic that the Opposition would take up the challenge, even though the law gives them an opportunity to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThey will not go but once the occasion arises next week and is opportune for them to make that ridiculous allegation they will make it all over again<\/strong>,&#8221; he further lamented. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GECOM\u2019s Claims and Objections exercise began on Monday to finalize the Official List of Electors and objections can be submitted up to January 22, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The claims aspect of the exercise will end on January 18.
