{"id":27703,"date":"2026-01-07T17:34:58","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T21:34:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=27703"},"modified":"2026-01-07T17:35:58","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T21:35:58","slug":"ag-nandlall-defends-guyanas-extradition-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/ag-nandlall-defends-guyanas-extradition-laws\/","title":{"rendered":"AG Nandlall defends Guyana&#8217;s extradition laws"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>by Celestine Chacon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall SC has strongly rejected what he describes as a deliberate attempt to misrepresent the country\u2019s extradition laws, attributing this to the arguments being made during the Mohamed\u2019s extradition case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During last evening&#8217;s edition of &#8216;Issues in the News&#8217;, the AG noted that over the course of the extradition case involving US indicted businessmen Azruddin and Nazar Mohamed, Guyana\u2019s Fugitive Offenders law was distorted by the defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nandlall made it clear that the extradition proceedings currently before the Magistrates Court are lawful and rooted in long-standing legal practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<strong>The high court as late as 2018 examined the constitutionality of those very provisions and affirmed the constitutionality.
