Chairman of Selectors of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Ramnaresh Sarwan, has clarified the thinking behind several of the most talked-about decisions in the selection of Guyana\u2019s squad for the upcoming Cricket West Indies Regional Super50 Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the notable absentees is Kevin Sinclair, who had a productive season with the bat and ball during the recently concluded county competitions. Sarwan, however, said his non-selection was a deliberate move meant to help the player mature further.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to dive into too much detail, but I think what we\u2019re doing with Kevin now, in terms of not being selected, will be better for him rather than picking him right away,\u201d Sarwan explained. \u201cThere were things going on that he needed to address, like appreciating his teammates and the game a lot more. Hopefully this experience will make him better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarwan also confirmed that Jonathan Van Lange was not considered for selection because of the U19 World Cup, which will be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia. \u201cYes, that\u2019s correct. He wasn\u2019t selected because he\u2019s abroad,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the inclusion of Sylus Tyndall, who did not bowl a ball in the last county tournament, raised eyebrows among cricket followers. But Sarwan defended the decision, noting that the fast bowler is finally injury-free after years of rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTyndall is someone we\u2019ve invested in for a few years now. He never really had the opportunity to play because of injury. This is the first time he\u2019s 100 percent fit, so it\u2019s only right we give him a fair opportunity to represent Guyana,\u201d Sarwan said.<\/p>\n\n\n

He added that Tyndall brings a rare dimension to Guyana\u2019s bowling attack. \u201cWith his height, he offers something different to what people are accustomed to in the Caribbean. We\u2019re hoping he makes a difference in the tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
