{"id":27012,"date":"2025-03-18T17:24:36","date_gmt":"2025-03-18T17:24:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=27012"},"modified":"2025-03-18T17:24:37","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T17:24:37","slug":"government-to-open-12-new-hospitals-by-2028-transforming-healthcare-access-nationwide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/government-to-open-12-new-hospitals-by-2028-transforming-healthcare-access-nationwide\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to Open 12 New Hospitals by 2028, Transforming Healthcare Access Nationwide"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Delicia Janneire, February 17, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government&#8217;s goal of transforming the healthcare sector is progressing as plans for over 12 new hospitals to be operational by 2028 are underway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This announcement was made by President Irfaan Ali during the sod-turning ceremony for a new hospital, where he outlined several milestones in the sector\u2019s ongoing development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new facilities, which will be spread across regions including One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Eight, and Nine, will offer world-class healthcare services to Guyanese citizens in the coming years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Six state-of-the-art regional hospitals are slated for commissioning in 2025, with plans for a total of 12 by 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Ali provided a timeline for the facilities&#8217; completion, stating that by the second and third quarters of 2025, a number of hospitals would open, including the No. 75 Regional Hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Amsterdam Hospital is expected to open in 2026, while Moruca Regional Hospital and Kato Regional Hospital are set to open in 2027. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The West Demerara Regional Hospital will be the final facility to open in 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each hospital will be equipped with modern medical infrastructure, including 24-hour accident and emergency units, laboratories, imaging services (such as ultrasound, digital X-ray, and CT scans), as well as fully equipped operating theatres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the infrastructure development, President Ali emphasized the importance of training the necessary workforce to operate these new facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 3,777 young Guyanese have already been trained in the last three years, with an additional 3,500 currently undergoing training to meet the sector&#8217;s growing needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A significant moment in Region Three&#8217;s healthcare history occurred on Friday, with the groundbreaking ceremony for the $11.4 billion West Demerara Hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new facility will feature more than 150 beds, four operating rooms, intensive care units (ICUs), neonatal and pediatric ICUs, as well as advanced diagnostics, including MRI and CT scans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Delicia Janneire, February 17, 2025 The government&#8217;s goal of transforming the healthcare sector is progressing as plans for over 12 new hospitals to be operational by 2028 are underway.
