{"id":26978,"date":"2025-03-18T14:59:32","date_gmt":"2025-03-18T14:59:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=26978"},"modified":"2025-03-18T14:59:33","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T14:59:33","slug":"gea-teams-up-with-undp-bit-to-advance-electric-transportation-in-guyana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/gea-teams-up-with-undp-bit-to-advance-electric-transportation-in-guyana\/","title":{"rendered":"GEA Teams Up with UNDP, BIT to Advance Electric Transportation in Guyana"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Delicia Janneire<\/em><br><em>February 18, 2025<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) and the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), have launched a <em>Just Energy Transition Seed Funding<\/em> initiative valued at <em>US$250,000<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program, introduced at the UN House in Georgetown, aims to expand the country\u2019s electric transportation sector by improving infrastructure and training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the initiative, <em>three new grid-connected solar charging stations<\/em> will be installed in Georgetown to support the increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These stations will also contribute excess energy to the national grid through the <em>Guyana Power and Light\u2019s (GPL) net billing system<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Delecia-GEA-1.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This system will allow energy generated but not used by the charging stations to be supplied to GPL, which will then deduct the amount from the station\u2019s energy consumption costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative also includes a <em>training component<\/em> to equip local technicians with the necessary skills for <em>EV maintenance and charging station operations<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Board of Industrial Training will oversee this aspect, ensuring an increased technical workforce for the growing sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each charging station will feature a <em>15-kilowatt solar PV module<\/em>, connected to a charger capable of charging two EVs at the same time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These <em>50 kW chargers<\/em> will reduce charging time, allowing vehicles to reach <em>90% battery capacity in approximately 45 minutes<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past five years, <em>more than 220 electric vehicles<\/em> have been imported into Guyana, with <em>44 arriving in 2024 alone<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch event concluded with the UN showcasing its first electric vehicle in Guyana, an <em>MG ZS EV<\/em>, which will be used for demonstration purposes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Delicia JanneireFebruary 18, 2025 The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) and the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), have launched a Just&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":25601,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[360,350],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-26978","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-energy","category-news"],"amp_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/26978","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=26978"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/26978\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":26980,"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/26978\/revisions\/26980"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/25601"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=26978"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=26978"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=26978"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
