{"id":26875,"date":"2025-03-12T13:58:38","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T13:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=26875"},"modified":"2025-03-12T13:58:39","modified_gmt":"2025-03-12T13:58:39","slug":"mammogram-machine-commissioned-at-linden-hospital-complex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/mammogram-machine-commissioned-at-linden-hospital-complex\/","title":{"rendered":"MAMMOGRAM MACHINE COMMISSIONED AT LINDEN HOSPITAL COMPLEX"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>February 12, 2025<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Linden Hospital Complex<\/strong> is now equipped with its first <strong>mammography machine<\/strong>, following a <strong>ribbon-cutting ceremony<\/strong> on Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This marks the beginning of a national effort to expand <strong>breast cancer screening services<\/strong> across Guyana, with three additional machines set to be installed in <strong>New Amsterdam, Suddie, and Lethem hospitals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the commissioning, <strong>Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony<\/strong>, commended the <strong>Women on The Move NGO<\/strong> for their role in advancing <strong>cancer awareness and support programs<\/strong> in Region Ten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister emphasized that <strong>breast cancer remains one of the country\u2019s chronic diseases<\/strong>, and the new machines will <strong>increase access to early detection and reduce the need for patients to travel to Georgetown for screening<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, <strong>Guyana had only one mammography machine<\/strong>, located at the <strong>Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)<\/strong>, making screening expensive and inconvenient for women in outlying areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Ministry of Health<\/strong> now aims to install <strong>mammography machines in every region<\/strong>, ensuring routine screening becomes more accessible and preventative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Anthony highlighted the urgency of <strong>early diagnosis<\/strong>, noting that <strong>many women seek treatment only after cancer has metastasized<\/strong>, limiting the effectiveness of intervention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the <strong>newly commissioned machine<\/strong>, women in Region Ten <strong>aged 40 and above<\/strong> are encouraged to <strong>access routine screenings<\/strong> to improve early detection rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Judy Gravesande<\/strong>, founder of <strong>Women on The Move<\/strong>, expressed gratitude to the Health Minister for fulfilling a <strong>commitment made 15 months ago<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She underscored the NGO\u2019s role in <strong>raising awareness and addressing the psychological and social aspects of cancer<\/strong>, noting that many women were once hesitant to publicly acknowledge their diagnoses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Medical Superintendent Dr. Trevlon Braithwaite<\/strong> and <strong>Senior Radiographer Coretta Whyte<\/strong> described the new machine as <strong>a symbol of hope<\/strong>, reinforcing the importance of <strong>early detection in saving lives and improving healthcare quality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commissioning was attended by <strong>Regional Health Officer Dr. Gregory Harris, Vice Chairman Mark Goring,<\/strong> and <strong>officials from the Linden Hospital Complex and the Ministry of Health<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative represents <strong>a major step forward in Guyana\u2019s fight against breast cancer<\/strong>, with efforts underway to ensure <strong>equal access to critical diagnostic services nationwide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>February 12, 2025 The Linden Hospital Complex is now equipped with its first mammography machine, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday.
