{"id":26821,"date":"2025-03-10T18:35:33","date_gmt":"2025-03-10T18:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=26821"},"modified":"2025-03-10T18:35:34","modified_gmt":"2025-03-10T18:35:34","slug":"guyana-accelerates-infrastructure-development-to-boost-trade-and-connectivity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/guyana-accelerates-infrastructure-development-to-boost-trade-and-connectivity\/","title":{"rendered":"Guyana Accelerates Infrastructure Development to Boost Trade and Connectivity"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Saskia Warrick<\/em><br><em>February 10, 2025<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> As Guyana undergoes rapid infrastructure expansion, President Irfaan Ali has outlined several major projects aimed at enhancing trade, regional connectivity, and economic diversification. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on the <em>Energy Perspective Podcast<\/em>, the President emphasized that the current progress marks only the beginning of a broader transformation plan for the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key initiative is the construction of the Corentyne River Bridge, which is expected to strengthen trade and investment ties between Guyana and Suriname. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To further support growth in Region Six, discussions are underway for a municipal airport in Berbice, similar to the Eugene F. Correia International Airport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, plans include establishing a second gas plant in Berbice, a deep-water port, and an aluminium plant to utilize shared reserves with Suriname.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Infrastructure expansion is also underway in Region Five, with projects aimed at modernizing agriculture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Region Three, major investments are enhancing connectivity with Region Two, fostering tourism and farming development in the Essequibo region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Region Seven is set to benefit from a new all-weather access road linking Sandhills to Bartica, which is expected to transform the area into a key tourism and mining hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These projects align with the government\u2019s vision of positioning Guyana as a regional leader in trade, industry, and sustainable development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Saskia WarrickFebruary 10, 2025 As Guyana undergoes rapid infrastructure expansion, President Irfaan Ali has outlined several major projects aimed at enhancing trade, regional connectivity, and economic diversification.
