The West Indies U19 women’s cricket team faced their second consecutive defeat in the 2025 ICC Women\u2019s U19 T20 World Cup, losing to Sri Lanka by 81 runs on Tuesday in Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a semifinal finish in the previous tournament, the Caribbean team is struggling to find their form in this year\u2019s competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The loss to Sri Lanka came just days after their opening match defeat to India by 9 wickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat, setting a challenging target of 167 for 5 in their 20 overs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their top scorers were Sanjana Kavindi (39), Manudi Nanayakkara (41), and Dahami Sewwandi (31).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selena Ross led the West Indies bowling effort, claiming 2 wickets for 25 runs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jahzara Claxton, Kenika Cassar, and Naijanni Cumberbatch each took one wicket, but Sri Lanka managed to build a strong total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In reply, the West Indies faltered badly against Sri Lanka’s spinners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Captain Samara Ramnauth top-scored with 24 runs, while Claxton (15), Amrita Ramtahal (11), and Cassar (10) were the only other players to reach double figures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team was dismissed for just 85 runs in 19.4 overs, falling short of the target by a significant margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sri Lanka\u2019s Chamodi Praboda was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 16 runs. Aseni Thalagune and Limansa Thilakarathna contributed with two wickets each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
