{"id":26390,"date":"2025-02-09T00:38:40","date_gmt":"2025-02-09T00:38:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=26390"},"modified":"2025-02-09T00:38:41","modified_gmt":"2025-02-09T00:38:41","slug":"104-6-billion-allocated-to-advance-agriculture-sector-in-2025-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/104-6-billion-allocated-to-advance-agriculture-sector-in-2025-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"$104.6 Billion Allocated to Advance Agriculture Sector in 2025 Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Saskia Warrick, January 17, 2025<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A substantial allocation of $104.6 billion has been set aside in the 2025 national budget to rejuvenate Guyana\u2019s agriculture sector, promote food security, and strengthen the nation\u2019s leadership in sustainable agriculture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The budget outlines significant investments aimed at improving key areas such as drainage, irrigation, sugar rehabilitation, crop production, and livestock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Allocations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A dominant portion, $73.2 billion, is earmarked for upgrading and expanding the drainage and irrigation network, with significant projects in Regions 3, 5, and 6, as well as the construction of eight new pump stations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The sugar industry will receive $13.3 billion to rehabilitate facilities, expand mechanization, cultivate 3,068 hectares, and construct 17 kilometers of all-weather roads.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The high-value crops sector, including corn, soya, coconuts, spices, citrus, and vegetables, will be bolstered with $2.9 billion in funding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Livestock, particularly poultry production, processing facilities, and breeding programs, will receive $1.7 billion in support.
