{"id":26364,"date":"2025-02-09T00:13:38","date_gmt":"2025-02-09T00:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=26364"},"modified":"2025-02-09T00:13:39","modified_gmt":"2025-02-09T00:13:39","slug":"presidential-grant-program-allocates-395m-to-amerindian-villages-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/presidential-grant-program-allocates-395m-to-amerindian-villages-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Presidential Grant Program Allocates $395M to Amerindian Villages in 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Celestine Chacon, January 15, 2025<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 242 Amerindian villages across Guyana have received approximately $395 million in funding under the Presidential Grant program in 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative aims to improve the living standards and economic stability of indigenous communities across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, highlighted the positive impact of the annual grants, noting that they have significantly boosted food security in these villages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hundreds of social and economic projects, ranging from infrastructure improvements to community development, have been completed thanks to the funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Sukhai praised the role of village councils in successfully managing the grants and ensuring that the benefits reach the communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She pointed out that the investments have brought stability to village economies, helping to foster growth and self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister also shared success stories from Massara Village in the North Rupununi, Region Nine, where the community has made notable advancements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include the construction of a swimming pool, an extension to the sports pavilion, and the fencing of the play field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sukhai emphasized that such achievements are a testament to the successful partnership between the government and Amerindian villages, with the PPP\/Civic administration investing in rural communities to promote development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since taking office in 2020, the government has substantially increased the Presidential Grant allocations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smaller villages, which previously received around $500,000, now benefit from $1 million annually. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Larger villages that used to receive between $1.5 million and $1.8 million are now granted $2 million or more each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Presidential Grant program continues to play a crucial role in improving the lives of Amerindian communities, providing them with the resources needed for sustainable growth and development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Celestine Chacon, January 15, 2025 A total of 242 Amerindian villages across Guyana have received approximately $395 million in funding under the Presidential Grant program in 2024.
