{"id":26340,"date":"2025-02-08T23:47:58","date_gmt":"2025-02-08T23:47:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=26340"},"modified":"2025-02-08T23:47:59","modified_gmt":"2025-02-08T23:47:59","slug":"transport-and-harbours-department-earns-over-1-2-billion-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/transport-and-harbours-department-earns-over-1-2-billion-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Transport and Harbours Department Earns Over $1.2 Billion in 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Delicia Janneire | January 14, 2025<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Transport and Harbours Department (T&amp;HD) of the Ministry of Public Works has reported a record revenue of over $1.2 billion for 2024, marking a 6.99% increase compared to the previous year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Manager Yolanda Hughes Smith shared these figures during the Ministry&#8217;s Year-in-Review report, highlighting the significant growth in both passenger and vehicle transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, T&amp;HD completed 5,034 return trips across its seven vessels and two barges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The department serviced multiple routes, including 1,965 trips on the Parika-Supenaam route, 744 trips to Leguan, 315 trips on the Parika-Wakenaam route, and 296 trips between Parika and Bartica. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, 38 trips were made for the Northwest Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smith also provided an update on infrastructure improvements within the department, specifically the rehabilitation of several key wharves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Major repairs were completed at the Parika and Supenaam stellings, including work on link span bridges, piling replacement, and improvements to the loading facilities and administrative buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, Smith outlined several projections for 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly completed Leguan ferry stelling is expected to be officially commissioned soon, and the new Bartica stelling is set to begin operations in February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other major projects include the completion of the Goods Wharf mega project and the Port Kaituma stelling, both expected by the second quarter of 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Coomaka and Marawana stellings are also slated for completion by the third quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These infrastructural upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery, including the continued development of the e-ticketing system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T&amp;HD also plans to dock four vessels this year\u2014the M.V. Makouria, Malali, M.V.
