{"id":26236,"date":"2025-02-08T22:03:22","date_gmt":"2025-02-08T22:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=26236"},"modified":"2025-02-08T22:03:23","modified_gmt":"2025-02-08T22:03:23","slug":"government-to-focus-on-community-development-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/government-to-focus-on-community-development-in-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to Focus on Community Development in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Nakasia Logan<\/em> | January 8, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his New Year message, President Irfaan Ali highlighted that community development will be a key focus for the government in 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Efforts will be directed towards improving the quality of life for citizens through strategic initiatives that include solid waste management and the development of recreational spaces for communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President emphasized that the government\u2019s approach aims to foster a stronger sense of civic responsibility while creating cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing environments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government plans to improve solid waste management, including enhancing garbage collection services and increasing the number of waste disposal sites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, recreational spaces such as the Kingston Seawall Esplanade, the Lamaha Street Walkway, and the Corriverton Play Park will be developed to create attractive community spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a related development, Local Government Minister Sonia Parag outlined the government&#8217;s solid waste management strategy for 2025 during her year-end press conference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key component of this plan involves the establishment of 13 new landfill sites across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Parag also highlighted the rehabilitation of Georgetown and improvements in various public spaces, including markets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Efforts to improve waste management will include the introduction of skip bins to prevent garbage from being dumped on roadways and in trenches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To improve waste collection efficiency, the government is also sourcing 25 new garbage compactor trucks for densely populated areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both President Ali and Minister Parag are urging Guyanese to embrace the nation&#8217;s ongoing transformation, stressing the importance of collective action in maintaining clean communities and ensuring sustainable growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Nakasia Logan | January 8, 2025 In his New Year message, President Irfaan Ali highlighted that community development will be a key focus for the government in 2025.
