{"id":26232,"date":"2025-02-08T22:00:44","date_gmt":"2025-02-08T22:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=26232"},"modified":"2025-02-08T22:00:45","modified_gmt":"2025-02-08T22:00:45","slug":"ministry-of-labour-reports-zero-cases-of-child-labour-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/ministry-of-labour-reports-zero-cases-of-child-labour-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministry of Labour Reports Zero Cases of Child Labour in 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Kimberly Giddings<\/em> | January 8, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Labour has announced that no cases of child labour were reported in Guyana throughout 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This milestone is attributed to a series of proactive measures implemented by the Ministry, including an increase in inspections and awareness campaigns aimed at educating the public about the negative impact of child labour on children&#8217;s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, the Ministry conducted over 3,000 inspections at industrial establishments across the country in 2024, surpassing their target by 15%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These efforts reached an estimated 20,000 people in all regions of Guyana, including both employers and workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with inspections, the Ministry also carried out 41 sensitization visits to primary and secondary schools in multiple regions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These visits focused on raising awareness among students about the dangers and consequences of child labour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To further their educational efforts, the Ministry organized awareness walks in Regions 1 and 4, which were attended by more than 1,000 participants, including students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Additionally, 20 outreach activities were held throughout the year to educate the public, employers, and employees about their rights and responsibilities under the labour laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry\u2019s comprehensive approach has resulted in no reported incidents of child labour for the year, marking a significant success in the fight against this issue in Guyana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Kimberly Giddings | January 8, 2025 The Ministry of Labour has announced that no cases of child labour were reported in Guyana throughout 2024.
