{"id":26173,"date":"2025-02-08T21:05:08","date_gmt":"2025-02-08T21:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=26173"},"modified":"2025-02-08T21:05:09","modified_gmt":"2025-02-08T21:05:09","slug":"public-works-ministry-fully-utilizes-2024-budget-completes-4500-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/public-works-ministry-fully-utilizes-2024-budget-completes-4500-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Works Ministry Fully Utilizes 2024 Budget, Completes 4,500 Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Delicia Janneire | January 6, 2025<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of 2024, the Ministry of Public Works successfully utilized its full budget allocation of 245 billion dollars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This achievement was highlighted during the Ministry\u2019s End of Year press conference, where it was revealed that the ministry completed 4,500 projects throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vladim Persaud, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works, reported a 100% implementation rate for all projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total expenditure for the year amounted to 234.6 billion dollars, with 12.5 billion dedicated to current expenditure and 222.1 billion to capital projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the capital expenditure, 175.6 billion dollars were allocated for local projects, and 46.4 billion dollars went towards foreign-funded initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public Works Minister Juan Edghill emphasized that the successful utilization of the budget allowed the government to exceed its commitments made in the 2020 manifesto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the additional projects undertaken was the construction of a new four-lane bridge between Wismar and McKenzie, and the planned construction of a new high-span bridge for Berbice, both of which were not originally promised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, 3,565 small contractors were engaged to carry out the 4,500 projects, and 800 additional contractors were brought in to handle emergency drainage works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry also rehabilitated approximately 130 kilometers of roads under its urban and miscellaneous roads program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edghill praised the cooperation of citizens, contractors, and utility companies for their support in ensuring the successful completion of these projects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Delicia Janneire | January 6, 2025 At the end of 2024, the Ministry of Public Works successfully utilized its full budget allocation of 245 billion dollars.
