{"id":25788,"date":"2025-01-23T16:54:53","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T16:54:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=25788"},"modified":"2025-01-23T16:54:54","modified_gmt":"2025-01-23T16:54:54","slug":"gwi-repairs-12-inch-water-main-in-georgetown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/gwi-repairs-12-inch-water-main-in-georgetown\/","title":{"rendered":"GWI Repairs 12-Inch Water Main in Georgetown"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>December 14, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) successfully repaired a 12-inch water main in Georgetown after an intense overnight operation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pipeline, located at the intersection of Aubrey Barker Road and Mandela Avenue, was damaged during ongoing works by the Guyana Power and Light (GPL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The break, which occurred on Friday afternoon, disrupted water supply to several districts, including South Ruimveldt, leaving hundreds of households without access. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWI&#8217;s Chief Executive Officer, Shaik Baksh, was on-site for most of the operation and commended the team and the Guyana Fire Service for their tireless efforts in completing the challenging repairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The repair work faced significant difficulties, including water seeping into the area, which delayed progress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Baksh confirmed that the team worked diligently through the night and into the early morning to restore the vital infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To facilitate the repairs, GWI temporarily shut off the water supply to affected areas, ensuring a plan was in place to restore service as quickly as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, mobile generators were installed in Festival City and the North and South Ruimveldt areas to mitigate potential water shortages caused by power outages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWI has assured the public that they will continue to monitor the situation to prevent further disruptions and maintain the stability of the water network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 14, 2024 The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) successfully repaired a 12-inch water main in Georgetown after an intense overnight operation.
