In his address at the Guyana Police Force\u2019s end-of-year awards ceremony, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken reaffirmed the force\u2019s commitment to modernization, professionalism, and community engagement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He highlighted the success of data-driven policing strategies, which have significantly improved crime prevention, road safety, and the reduction of road accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the key strategies employed by the force are crime mapping, analytical policing, and increased patrols in high-crime areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the force has established specialized units within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to tackle emerging challenges like cybercrime and secure electronic evidence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These efforts align with the government’s manifesto to enhance public security and improve policing standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on the force\u2019s achievements for 2024, Commissioner Hicken outlined the core pillars of the strategic plan: operations partnership, developing personnel, infrastructure, performance, professionalism, and accountability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, the successful implementation of a comprehensive traffic management plan was credited for the improvements in road safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Training and education also took center stage, with 1,941 scholarships awarded this year, and 110 ranks sponsored for local and regional training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police training curriculum was redesigned to meet modern policing demands, offering officers the opportunity to graduate with degrees or postgraduate diplomas based on their rank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the technological front, the GPF launched its official website and radio station, automated human resource functions, and upgraded its forensic unit to bolster crime analysis and evidence processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite ongoing challenges such as budget constraints and the evolving nature of crime, the Commissioner emphasized the force’s commitment to addressing these issues through strategic partnerships and operational reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hicken concluded with a quote from Winston Churchill, urging the ranks to approach their duties with honor, integrity, and determination, assuring that their collective efforts will lead to a safer and brighter future for all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the private sector to the work of the force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
