{"id":25670,"date":"2025-01-20T17:09:09","date_gmt":"2025-01-20T17:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=25670"},"modified":"2025-01-20T17:09:10","modified_gmt":"2025-01-20T17:09:10","slug":"mangrove-awareness-initiative-launched-to-educate-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/mangrove-awareness-initiative-launched-to-educate-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Mangrove Awareness Initiative Launched to Educate Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Josiah Williams<\/em><br><em>December 10, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mangrove Corner project has officially launched, aiming to enhance education on mangroves and environmental conservation among students across Guyana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative includes the establishment of mangrove library corners in schools and the distribution of interactive resources, such as <em>Mangrove Restoration<\/em> and <em>The Wonderful World of Mangroves<\/em> activity booklets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme, introduced at the Mangrove Centre in Mon Repos, seeks to engage communities through collaborations with local voluntary groups, Neighborhood Democratic Councils (NDCs), and Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It focuses on educating the next generation about the importance of mangrove conservation for environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To complement the initiative, a Mangrove Awareness Bus has been procured to facilitate field trips and exchange programmes, improving accessibility to hands-on learning experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is funded by the ExxonMobil Foundation and is being executed by the Iwokrama International Centre and Environmental Management Consultants (EMC) Guyana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EMC Director Shyam Nokta highlighted the increasing efforts in mangrove conservation and the significance of partnerships in sustaining these initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Library has also partnered with the programme, ensuring that schools in Regions 2, 4, 5, 6, and 10 will benefit from the mangrove library corners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, a new teacher\u2019s resource manual is under development and is scheduled for launch next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative underscores a collaborative approach to environmental education, equipping schools and communities with the tools to foster greater awareness and action in mangrove conservation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Josiah WilliamsDecember 10, 2024 The Mangrove Corner project has officially launched, aiming to enhance education on mangroves and environmental conservation among students across Guyana.
