{"id":25565,"date":"2025-01-16T18:12:52","date_gmt":"2025-01-16T18:12:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=25565"},"modified":"2025-01-16T18:12:54","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T18:12:54","slug":"solar-farm-commissioned-in-mahdia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/solar-farm-commissioned-in-mahdia\/","title":{"rendered":"Solar Farm Commissioned in Mahdia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>December 7, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guyana is advancing towards a renewable energy future with the commissioning of a 0.65-megawatt grid-forming solar photovoltaic farm in Mahdia, Region Eight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $362.41 million project, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, aims to provide sustainable energy, reduce costs, and lower carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solar farm is projected to save $80.5 million annually by cutting diesel consumption by over 309,000 liters and reducing carbon emissions by 672,561 kilograms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a 1,500-kWh battery energy storage system, it will supply 935 MWh of electricity annually, benefiting approximately 3,000 residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The farm will also support Mahdia\u2019s existing mini-grid, ensuring stable power even during peak demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Mark Phillips highlighted the government&#8217;s ongoing efforts to bridge the energy divide between the Hinterland and Coastland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also pointed out that the Mahdia solar farm is part of a larger initiative that includes solar installations in Lethem and Bartica, with additional improvements planned for Wakenaam, Leguan, and other regions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 7, 2024 Guyana is advancing towards a renewable energy future with the commissioning of a 0.65-megawatt grid-forming solar photovoltaic farm in Mahdia, Region Eight.
