Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, has strongly condemned comments made by Linden\u2019s Mayor, Sharma Solomon, urging residents to occupy land in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mayor made these remarks during a live broadcast on his social media page, which have since sparked controversy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Croal described the statements as “irresponsible” and reminded citizens that there is a structured process for acquiring land in Guyana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) has a clear procedure in place, and residents are encouraged to engage with the housing office and apply through the correct channels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also noted that Solomon, as a member of the CH&PA Board, is well-positioned to understand and promote the proper land acquisition process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister also addressed concerns raised by the Mayor regarding the high cost of land. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Croal explained that land prices are based on income categories, and the government ensures that the cost is fair and affordable for all applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated that not every applicant pays the same price; the price is adjusted according to the applicant\u2019s income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the government subsidizes the cost of land development, which includes infrastructure such as drainage, culverts, electricity, and roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Croal pointed out that low-income lots, for example, are priced as low as $255,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister stressed that the government’s approach ensures equitable access to land and housing across all regions, including Region Ten, where Solomon\u2019s remarks originated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He reassured the public that the government is committed to facilitating the housing needs of citizens through a well-organized and fair process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government continues to work on developing land and providing affordable housing options for Guyanese, with significant progress expected in the coming months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
