{"id":25218,"date":"2025-01-06T17:44:52","date_gmt":"2025-01-06T17:44:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=25218"},"modified":"2025-01-06T17:44:53","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T17:44:53","slug":"govt-to-introduce-stricter-laws-against-illegal-use-of-sirens-and-emergency-lights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/govt-to-introduce-stricter-laws-against-illegal-use-of-sirens-and-emergency-lights\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t to Introduce Stricter Laws Against Illegal Use of Sirens and Emergency Lights"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Saskia Warrick, NCN News \u2013 November 22, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government of Guyana is set to amend laws addressing the illegal use of sirens and emergency lights on vehicles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This announcement follows concerns over civilians using these devices to bypass traffic, a practice that has raised significant safety issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Irfaan Ali, who convened a meeting with the Guyana Police Force and Attorney General, emphasized the urgency of addressing these violations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposed legislation will include fines and the revocation of drivers\u2019 licenses for those caught misusing sirens or emergency lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his address, President Ali called on drivers to comply with existing traffic laws and prioritize safety and responsibility, particularly as the new regulations are set to take effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President also noted that security companies authorized to use emergency lights will face stricter regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies found to be abusing their privileges could have their emergency lights removed, and their security licenses may be suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In light of rising road accidents and fatalities, the government, in partnership with the Guyana Police Force, is developing a comprehensive framework aimed at improving road safety.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Saskia Warrick, NCN News \u2013 November 22, 2024 The Government of Guyana is set to amend laws addressing the illegal use of sirens and emergency lights on vehicles.
