{"id":24570,"date":"2024-12-05T12:40:28","date_gmt":"2024-12-05T12:40:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=24570"},"modified":"2024-12-05T12:40:29","modified_gmt":"2024-12-05T12:40:29","slug":"concerns-raised-over-missing-payment-vouchers-from-previous-administration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/concerns-raised-over-missing-payment-vouchers-from-previous-administration\/","title":{"rendered":"Concerns Raised Over Missing Payment Vouchers from Previous Administration"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>By Saskia Warrick | November 5, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concerns regarding financial practices under the previous administration were brought to light at Monday\u2019s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was revealed that cheques totaling 1.706 million were issued without the necessary supporting documentation, raising questions about the handling of finances in Region Nine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, questioned why 38 cheques issued under the former government lacked the required vouchers and supporting documents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regional Executive Officer of Region Nine, Karl Singh, clarified that the documents in question were \u201csubsequently provided\u201d to the Audit Office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Singh claimed that the initial inspection conducted by the Auditor General\u2019s office was only a \u201cwalkthrough,\u201d which did not include a detailed check of the safe at the sub-Treasury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, Accountant General Jennifer Chapman expressed confusion over Singh\u2019s explanation and requested further clarification. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She emphasized the importance of accountability and thorough documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Auditor General\u2019s Office has committed to continuing its investigation to determine the cause of these discrepancies and ensure proper financial management practices in the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Saskia Warrick | November 5, 2024 Concerns regarding financial practices under the previous administration were brought to light at Monday\u2019s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting.
