{"id":24513,"date":"2024-11-28T15:08:44","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T15:08:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=24513"},"modified":"2024-11-28T15:08:45","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T15:08:45","slug":"hemp-cultivation-to-begin-in-region-six-with-small-farmers-participation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/hemp-cultivation-to-begin-in-region-six-with-small-farmers-participation\/","title":{"rendered":"Hemp Cultivation to Begin in Region Six with Small Farmers&#8217; Participation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Saskia Warrick | November 4, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guyana is set to launch hemp cultivation in Region Six, with small farmers playing a pivotal role in the initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated over 30,000 acres of land in the region, which will be divided for hemp, corn, and sugarcane production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has emphasized that small farmers will be the primary beneficiaries, each being allocated 1 or 2 acres to begin hemp production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative is expected to provide significant economic benefits, tapping into the growing hemp industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha, confirmed that a special implementation committee has been formed to oversee the development of the allocated lands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, other farmers in the region have expressed interest in returning to the sugar industry, which is also set to recommence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To support these agricultural developments, approximately $2 billion has been allocated in this year\u2019s budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hemp project is expected to offer new economic opportunities and enhance regional agricultural diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Saskia Warrick | November 4, 2024 Guyana is set to launch hemp cultivation in Region Six, with small farmers playing a pivotal role in the initiative.
