{"id":24501,"date":"2024-11-28T14:59:52","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T14:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=24501"},"modified":"2024-11-28T14:59:53","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T14:59:53","slug":"guyana-expands-brackish-water-shrimp-production-with-70-new-ponds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/guyana-expands-brackish-water-shrimp-production-with-70-new-ponds\/","title":{"rendered":"Guyana Expands Brackish Water Shrimp Production with 70 New Ponds"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Josiah Williams | November 4, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guyana\u2019s brackish water shrimp industry is set to see a significant boost with the construction of 70 new shrimp ponds across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement was made by Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha during a meeting with shrimp farmers at the Albion Sports Complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative, which began in 2021 with 80 farmers, has grown to include an additional 45 participants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of now, 55 shrimp ponds have been developed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This expansion is part of the government\u2019s broader strategy to increase production and improve the sector\u2019s overall efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The production of brackish water shrimp has shown remarkable growth in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, shrimp farmers in Region 6 collectively earned 1.8 billion dollars from their output.
